Square :- the multiplication
of any number to itself is called square of that number.
Example: 52
= 5 × 5 = 25
92
= 9 × 9 = 81
we will discuss the short and tricky method to calculate the
square of the number . We follow the different tricks in different situation which
helps to do fast calculation in the questions.
Trick 1: square of any number (2 or 3 digit)
Concept:
(a/b)2 = a2 / 2ab / b2
example 1: Square of 2 digit number
example 2: Square of 3 digit number
(112)2 = ?
Sol. :
Method II
Sol. :
100 - 96 = 4
Sol. :
100 - 100 = 8
Concept:
Sol. :
(75)2 = 7 × (7+1) / 52
Sol. :
(105)2 = 10 × (10+1) / 52
Practice Questions :
(112)2 = ?
Sol. :
Method I
Answer is : 12544
Trick 2: when the numbers are near about "100" .
example 1: when the number is lesser than '100'.
(96)2 = ?
Sol. :
100 - 96 = 4
(96)2 = 96 - 4 / 42
= 92 / 16
Answer is : 9216
example 1: when the number is greater than '100'.
(108)2 = ?
Sol. :
100 - 100 = 8
(108)2 = 108 + 8 / 82
= 116 / 64
Answer is : 11664
Trick 3: when unit place digit is 5.
Concept:
(a/5)2 = a × (a+1) / 25 (52)
example 1:
(75)2 = ?
Sol. :
(75)2 = 7 × (7+1) / 52
= 7 × 8 / 25
= 56 / 25
= 56 / 25
Answer is : 5625
example 2:
(105)2 = ?
Sol. :
(105)2 = 10 × (10+1) / 52
= 10 × 11 / 25
= 110 / 25
= 110 / 25
Answer is : 11025
